Use Google Apps for free

A lot of people these days set up domains for websites and struggle to get emails and other file sharing done. With Google, you can use their free Emails, Docs, Calendar and Contact Sharing for your start up with no extra cost.
Google allows the below to set up for free on Google Apps for business.

Google Apps Services

You can also buy services from Google, which allows you more space and extra add-ins. You would need the same, if you are a business and have more then 100 users.
The comparison for the same is as below:

Comparing with Google Apps for Business

The first thing you would need to set the same up is a Domain name. You can always get them from any domain providers like GoDaddy, Network Solutions, 1&1.co.uk. You can also register a domain with Google itself, but they only support the following High Level domains .com, .net, .org, .biz & .info.
You can register an .ie domain with Domain Registry (IEDR). But you cannot host the DNS with them, and you will have to host them with your website hosting providers. For ease of setting you, you can always use a Hosting Provider who you want to host your website register the domain for you as well.
Google Apps allows you to set up website as well, but they aren’t very easily configured and sometimes look messy. So it’s better to host them with a Hosting provider who would have a few easy to use website templates.

  • To Get started go to https://www.google.com/a/cpanel/domain/new?hl=en and enter your Domain Name and press next.
  • On the next page fill in the details for the Administrator.
  • Set up administrator login details on the next page
  • Then you would need to verify that you are the owner of the domain. For that you can create a TXT entry on your DNS server. The other option is to upload a file with a specific name on your Website Hosting server. You can also set up a META tag on your website home page to verify the same.

To get your emails delivered to Google Apps, you will need to set up your MX records to point to the Google Server. The MX records are:

Priority Mail server
1 ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM
5 ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM
5 ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM
10 ASPMX2.GOOGLEMAIL.COM
10 ASPMX3.GOOGLEMAIL.COM
